Bally’s executives have confirmed their commitment to the project and countered media speculation that construction had stopped
Bally’s Corp. has confirmed that construction of its permanent Chicago casino remains on track with the expectation that the $1.7bn venue will open in early 2027.
Bally’s held a conference call, where Soo Kim, Executive Chairman; Kim Barker, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer; and Wanda Wilson, Chairwoman of the Bally’s Chicago Board, reviewed progress and recent developments. The executives confirmed Bally’s commitment to the project and countered media speculation that construction had stopped
Kim said: “There have been inaccurate reports suggesting that construction has been stopped or paused. Construction continues every day, and there are approximately 1,000 skilled tradespeople working on the construction of the permanent Bally’s Chicago resort.”
The update follows Bally’s decision in August to pause the build on some non-gaming components of the project after Chicago legalised video gaming terminals (VGTs), which Bally’s described as ‘a violation of the terms and economic undertakings of the host community agreement we signed with the city of Chicago.’
Kim said: “Bally’s took these actions because our responsibility is clear. “We are acting to protect our investors and to preserve the value of Bally’s Chicago and to ensure the commitments that underpin this investment and our agreement with the City of Chicago are honoured. We remain fully committed to Chicago.”
