Allwyn AG has announced the appointment of Fredrik Ögren as its new group chief technology officer (CTO).
According to Tuesday’s announcement, Ögren joins Allwyn from Betsson Group, where he served as CTO for five years.
During his tenure at Betsson, he was responsible for steering technology strategy and evolving large-scale platforms to support international growth in multiple jurisdictions. This included Betsson’s recent acquisition of Canadian B2C business of Rhino Entertainment Group.
Reporting to Kresimir Spajic, CEO of Allwyn Digital, Ögren will oversee the shaping and delivery of Allwyn’s technology strategy to develop a more connected and efficient ecosystem.
The company aimed to enhance growth, reinforce market positions and improve customer experience across its portfolio.
‘Expertise will be instrumental’
Talking about his appointment, Ögren commented: “I am thrilled to be joining Allwyn at such an exciting stage in its growth journey. Technology plays a critical role in creating great player experiences, enabling innovation and supporting long-term business success.
“I look forward to working with colleagues across the group to build an even more connected technology ecosystem, strengthen our capabilities and help deliver the next phase of Allwyn’s growth.”
Spajic also welcomed Ögren, highlighting his deep industry experience and proven ability to lead technology transformations: “We’re delighted to welcome Fredrik to Allwyn. His expertise will be instrumental in building a more scalable technology platform to deliver improved experiences for our customers and partners.”
Growth and leadership changes
Brett Cross, who has been acting as interim group CTO, will transition into a newly created position – CTO global lottery and deputy group CTO – reporting directly to Ögren.
Allwyn described this leadership reshuffle as building a “strong technology leadership team for the next phase of growth”.
The appointment comes at a pivotal time for Allwyn, which has recently undergone rapid expansion.
Spajic recently told iGB that additional M&A is on the horizon. He says a number of discussions are under way, but when asked what the timeline for these potential opportunities looks like, there is no urgency to close a deal.
Additionally, Allwyn recently appointed former Playtech executive Francesco Rodano as the new group head of responsible gaming. Former William Hill senior figure Phil Walker was also named as Allwyn UK CEO in August.
