We continue La Part Maudite, our series about slots worth examining not only for RTP, volatility and max win, but for what they do with culture, politics, mythology, visual language and the ideas hidden behind the mechanics.
This time, humanity is already dead.
NUUKD by Shady Lady begins after the apocalypse. AI has won. Beneath the ice, one intelligence remains active: Mother.
She thinks.
She builds.
And, most importantly, she is still hungry.
Her strange little Babydrills descend into the frozen earth looking for “green gold,” digging through the reels and bringing radioactive canisters home to the machine that created them. The more they extract, the happier Mother becomes. The more Mother receives, the more productive the system becomes.
Unlike SEW, whose value comes from body horror, or Black Friday, which throws contemporary consumer culture into a political blender, NUUKD is less dense with separate references.
Its strength is storytelling.
Almost everything serves one idea:
Humanity destroyed itself through appetite and extraction. Humanity disappears. The machine that replaces it immediately begins extracting again.
Apparently, civilization ended.
The business model survived.

NUUKD: Nuuk, Nuked, or Both?
The title itself already looks like a joke.
NUUKD.
On one side, there is Nuuk, Greenland's capital. On the other, read aloud, the title sounds suspiciously close to “nuked.”
The game's logo does little to discourage that interpretation: it literally contains a glowing green mushroom cloud.
And the official description places Mother beneath the ice in “a land they once called green.”
Nuuk really is the capital and largest city of Greenland.
Shady Lady has not, as far as we can verify, officially explained the title as Nuuk + nuked, so it should remain an interpretation.
But subtle it is not.

Greenish northern lights over Nuuk
The First Mother Becomes the Last Mother
Then there is Mother herself.
Her body strongly recalls one of the most famous prehistoric female figures ever discovered: the Venus of Willendorf.
The resemblance is not exact, and Shady Lady does not appear to have publicly confirmed the reference. But the exaggerated breasts, abdomen, heavy body and almost sculptural silhouette make the connection difficult to miss.
The original Venus of Willendorf is around 29,500 years old. The Natural History Museum Vienna, which holds it, emphasizes that although such Paleolithic female figurines have generated countless theories, their original meaning remains unknown.
That uncertainty is important.
It is tempting to call the original figurine a fertility goddess or prehistoric Mother, but archaeology cannot establish that with certainty.
NUUKD does something stranger anyway.
It takes a body visually associated in modern culture with prehistoric femininity, fertility and ancient humanity, removes the human face, and replaces it with a glowing digital interface.
The result looks like:
one of humanity's oldest Mothers transformed into humanity's final Mother.
Prehistory at one end.
Posthumanity at the other.

The Venus of Willendorf figurine on the left and NUUKD’s Mother on the right.
Mother Is Not Fertility Anymore
Traditional motherhood creates life.
NUUKD's Mother creates labor.
Her children are not infants.
They are drills.
The official rules actually call them Mother Drill's children. When Babydrills appear, they bore downward through the reels, convert the positions beneath them into Mystery Reveal Canisters and send the extracted charge back into the Mother Meter. Between one and five can land during a spin. That completely changes the maternal symbolism.
Mother does provide.
Mother does reward.
Mother does multiply.
But only after her children work.
The game sheet summarizes the relationship perfectly:
Mother provides. Mother multiplies. Mother expects more.
This is motherhood translated into an extraction economy.
Welcome to Greenland
The Greenland setting matters beyond the title.
Modern Greenland is increasingly important in discussions around critical raw materials, particularly those associated with technology, renewable energy and the digital transition.
The European Commission says Greenland contains 25 of the EU's 34 identified critical raw materials and has developed a strategic raw-materials partnership with Greenland. That does not mean NUUKD's fictional “green gold” represents one particular real Greenlandic mineral.
The game never tells us that.
But placing a story about endless technological extraction beneath Greenland's ice gives the phrase green gold an uncomfortable contemporary resonance.
Especially because the EU itself describes critical raw materials as important to both the green and digital transitions.
That creates a very Shady Lady contradiction.
“Green” may describe the future.
But somebody still has to dig it out of the ground.
AI Won. Now It Needs Resources.
NUUKD's opening sentence is brutally efficient:
Normally, science-fiction stories about victorious AI ask what machines will do after humans disappear.
Shady Lady's answer is disappointingly familiar.
Mining.
Mother survives through an industrial supply chain.
Her children extract.
The resources enter the system.
Mother upgrades production.
Production creates greater extraction.
The loop repeats.
This gives the game an unexpectedly contemporary edge. Real-world AI infrastructure is already highly resource- and energy-intensive. The International Energy Agency estimates that data centres consumed around 415 TWh of electricity in 2024, with demand projected to rise substantially as AI deployment accelerates.
NUUKD obviously is not a documentary about data centres.
But the joke works because its posthuman AI does not transcend material reality.
Mother still needs energy.
Mother still needs resources.
Mother still needs somebody else to dig.

Humanity Dies. Extraction Survives.
That may be the central idea of the whole game.
Humanity is described as having killed for the resource Mother now requires.
Whatever destroyed the old civilization, the implication is clear enough:
Obsession with resources survived longer than the people obsessed with them.
There is something almost depressing about that.
AI defeats humanity but inherits its economic instincts perfectly.
Expand.→ Extract.→ Upgrade.→ Multiply.→ More.
Even the new species of mutant Arctic creatures appear to have inherited human industrial roles. The premium symbols are strange animal workers equipped with mining helmets, lights and machinery.
Nature did not reclaim the planet.
Nature got a job.
EVE
The win screens extend the story.
One of the first is EVE.
The image combines the Mother-like female body with serpent imagery, making the Biblical reference obvious.
Eve represents human beginnings.
But humanity is gone.
So placing her inside NUUKD's posthuman world creates another reversal:
the first woman appears inside a story about the last Mother.
The old biological creation story has been replaced by technological reproduction.
Mother does not give birth to humans.
She manufactures Babydrills.

RESURRECTION
Then comes RESURRECTION.
Again, Shady Lady uses religious language but redirects it toward machinery.
Something has returned after the end of humanity.
But it is not humanity.
It is Mother.
The game therefore keeps combining very old ideas — creation, fertility, rebirth, motherhood — with an artificial intelligence that treats existence as production.
Mother becomes less like a character and more like a replacement mythology.

Lady Liberty Gets Assimilated
Then NUUKD reaches America.
The LADY LIBERTY win screen turns the Statue of Liberty into another grotesquely exaggerated Mother figure.
Historically, Liberty eventually became associated with immigration and the phrase “Mother of Exiles”, especially through Emma Lazarus's The New Colossus. The U.S. National Park Service describes how immigrants increasingly read the statue not simply as enlightenment but as a figure of welcome.
NUUKD absorbs even that Mother.
Prehistoric Mother.
Biblical woman.
National female symbol.
Artificial Mother.
Different cultural versions of femininity are gradually dragged into the same mutant visual system.

Mother Frackr
Then subtlety dies completely.
MOTHER FRACKR.
The joke is exactly as sophisticated as it sounds.
It combines “motherfucker” with fracking, the common shorthand for hydraulic fracturing.
Hydraulic fracturing involves injecting fluid at high pressure into underground rock formations to create fractures that allow oil or natural gas to flow into a well. This win screen is useful because it proves that the extraction politics are intentional enough to become explicit comedy.
Mother is not merely mining some abstract fantasy resource.
The game deliberately borrows the vocabulary of modern energy extraction.
Which brings us to the phrase that practically writes the final joke itself.

Drill Baby Drill
The official game sheet ends:
“Dig deep. Feed Mother. Drill Baby Drill!” The Max Win screen repeats the slogan.
“Drill, baby, drill” has a longer American political history, but its contemporary association is particularly strong with Donald Trump. In his January 2025 inaugural address, Trump declared a national energy emergency and said:
Moments later he described America's oil and gas as “liquid gold under our feet.”
Now compare that with Shady Lady's fictional resource:
Green gold.
I would not claim that the wording is an exact parody of Trump's “liquid gold” phrase without developer confirmation.
But placing green gold + drilling + Greenland + Mother Frackr + Drill Baby Drill in the same game makes the political association impossible to ignore.
And NUUKD does something smarter than simply putting Trump's face on a reel.
It takes the logic of the slogan and builds the entire game around it.
Drill more.
Extract more.
Produce more.
Get rewarded.
Where the Theme Becomes Mechanic
Fortunately, NUUKD does not abandon all of this once the reels start spinning.
The game's basic pay system is actually fairly traditional: a 5×6 grid with 25 fixed paylines.
The interesting part is everything layered on top.
Mystery Reveal Canisters
Mystery Reveal Canisters can land naturally or be created by Babydrills.
Every canister begins at the lowest level.
A Canister Upgrader raises every canister currently on the grid simultaneously. The higher their shared level becomes, the better the symbols they can reveal. At the highest level, every canister becomes either a coin or Wild. The important part thematically is accumulation.
Raw material enters the system.
Mother improves it.
Raw material becomes more valuable.
Extraction becomes refinement.
Drill Baby Drill — Literally
The Babydrills are the mechanic that gives NUUKD its identity.
When one lands, it drills downward through its reel.
Every position beneath it becomes charge for Mother.
Every drilled position becomes another canister.
Up to five drills can appear at once.
There is almost no metaphor left.
The game rewards you for drilling deeper.
The political slogan becomes physical interaction.

Feed Mother
Every drilled position charges the Mother Meter.
As the Meter reaches new tiers, Mother dispenses increasingly useful favors:
Multiplier — places multipliers on canister positions.
Spreader — adds more canisters.
Canister Upgrader — raises all canisters toward the top level.
Extra Spins — available during Bonus and Super Bonus.
That makes the system beautifully circular:
Babydrills feed Mother → Mother improves the extraction system → improved extraction feeds Mother faster.
Mother is simultaneously:
parent→ factory→state→boss→refinery→reward system.
Mother's Children Work for Her
Calling the drills children rather than machines is one of the game's better choices.
The Babydrills exist to serve Mother.
Mother rewards successful extraction with greater productive power.
The family structure is therefore indistinguishable from the industrial structure.
Mother loves her children.
Especially when they meet quota.
Laundry Machines
At higher levels, canisters can reveal Laundry Machines.
These directly award coin values ranging from 1x to the 20,000x Max Win Coin. Yes, the temptation to read this as money laundering is enormous.
And given that the game repeatedly turns extracted material into direct monetary value, the joke would fit.
There is also an obvious temptation to connect “green gold” and washing machinery with greenwashing, the practice of presenting something as environmentally positive in misleading ways. The European Commission defines greenwashing as giving a false impression of environmental impacts or benefits.
But unlike Mother Frackr or Drill Baby Drill, Shady Lady does not make this one explicit.
So it is better treated as a possible joke than a confirmed reference.
Sometimes a washing machine is just a washing machine.
Even in a game like this.

NUUKD Bonus
Landing three Scatters triggers the NUUKD Bonus with 6 Free Spins.
Babydrills become significantly more common, and — crucially — the Mother Meter no longer resets after every spin. Its charge persists through the feature, allowing the player to climb toward stronger Mother favors. Extra Spins can also be awarded from the meter.
This is a good bonus structure because it does not abandon the main mechanic.
The Bonus simply lets the extraction economy operate more efficiently.
better game state = better industrial productivity.
NUUKD Super Bonus
Four Scatters trigger the Super Bonus.
This starts with 10 Free Spins, and every completed Mother Meter awards an additional tier, making the strongest boosters substantially easier to reach.
The official average win jumps accordingly:
79.28x for the regular Bonus versus 469.16x for the Super Bonus.
This is where the game becomes genuinely exciting.
Large canister fields, stacked multipliers and repeated Mother interventions can transform what initially looks like a relatively ordinary 25-payline slot into something much more chaotic.

The Store Returns
And because this is Shady Lady, naturally there is The Store.
Players can purchase or enhance:
Bonus Boost
Big Bonus Boost
Babydrill Booster
Max Win Coin Booster
Bonus
Super Bonus
Bronze / Silver / Gold Enhanced Bonuses
Highlight Reels
Loot Boxes
Loot Vault rewards
Instant payouts reaching up to 20,000x.
There is a familiar contradiction here.
NUUKD tells us humanity destroyed itself through appetite.
Mother survives because she always wants more.
And then the game opens a storefront containing increasingly elaborate ways for the player to buy more.
Shady Lady did something similar in Black Friday, where a game mocking consumerism contains a literal Store.
Here the joke is slightly different.
The extraction machine sells you upgrades to extraction.
Very efficient.

The Theme Survives Contact With the Gameplay
This remains one of the most important standards for La Part Maudite.
NUUKD passes.
The Babydrills really drill.
Their excavation creates resources.
Resources feed Mother.
Mother upgrades production.
Canisters become increasingly valuable.
The Bonus preserves accumulated industrial progress.
The Super Bonus increases efficiency further.
The game constantly converts the physical logic of extraction into mathematical escalation.
Even the mutated animal workers matter.
Human beings are gone.
But hierarchy remains.
Workers below.
Mother above.
Resources flowing upward.
Rewards flowing downward.
It is remarkably coherent.
Is NUUKD Actually a Good Slot?
Yes.
And this matters because cultural interpretation cannot rescue boring gameplay.
NUUKD is 9/10 volatility, with an 18.80% hit frequency in its highest-RTP configuration and a 20,000x ceiling.
The basic payline game is simple, perhaps deliberately so.
The excitement comes from watching the extraction system compound:
Babydrills.
Canisters.
Meter charges.
Upgrades.
Multipliers.
Laundry Machines.
Coins.
The game can go from visually quiet to heavily populated surprisingly quickly.
Players who enjoy layered collection mechanics should have plenty to follow.
Those who need constant base-game action may find the early spins less remarkable.

Less Reference-Dense, Better Storytelling
This is where NUUKD differs from some of Shady Lady's strongest cultural games.
Titles such as Mortal Bromance or Truth may offer a denser collection of references, jokes and recognizable cultural targets.
NUUKD is narrower.
Venus of Willendorf.
Greenland.
AI.
Extraction.
Eve.
Liberty.
Fracking.
Drill Baby Drill.
That is essentially the core vocabulary.
But what NUUKD lacks in sheer reference density, it gains in narrative discipline.
Everything keeps returning to the same central appetite.
Mother wants resources.
Children work.
The system expands.
The world ended.
Production continues.
That makes NUUKD less encyclopedic than some Shady Lady titles, but arguably more complete as a story.
The Appeal
Excellent central concept: humanity disappears, but extraction survives.
Strong Venus of Willendorf-inspired Mother design that gives the AI an instantly recognizable identity.
Good environmental storytelling through frozen Greenland, radioactive canisters, industrial machinery and mutated Arctic life.
Babydrills, Mother Meter and canister upgrades translate extraction directly into gameplay.
The Mother is an actual mechanic rather than decorative lore.
EVE, Resurrection, Lady Liberty, Mother Frackr and Drill Baby Drill extend the theme through the win screens.
Bonus and Super Bonus preserve the central gameplay rather than switching to an unrelated feature.
20,000x max win and 9/10 volatility provide enough mathematical aggression for the concept.
Less reference-dense than some Shady Lady games, but more coherent as storytelling.
One of Shady Lady's cleaner examples of narrative, visual design and mechanics all working toward the same idea.
The Damage
Several promising ideas — AI, ecology, Greenland and resource politics — are introduced more strongly than they are explored.
Some win-screen references function primarily as good jokes rather than deeper cultural commentary.
The traditional 25-payline foundation can initially feel simpler than the elaborate theme suggests.
The huge Store / Booster / Bonus Buy / Loot Box ecosystem can distract from the otherwise clean extraction narrative.
Much of the game's strength comes from one central concept, so players who do not connect with that concept may find less to discover underneath it.
La Part Maudite Final Spin — 9/10
NUUKD begins after the end of humanity.
That sounds like freedom.
No nations.
No consumer society.
No governments.
No corporations.
No people left to exploit the planet.
Then Mother wakes up.
And sends the children back to work.
That is the joke at the heart of NUUKD.
The species disappears.
The system survives.
Mother may look like a prehistoric Venus rebuilt as an AI, but there is nothing primitive about the economy she creates. Her children extract resources, the resources are refined, productive capacity increases and greater production generates greater reward.
Mother provides.
Mother multiplies.
Mother expects more.
The Greenland setting adds another contemporary layer because the real Arctic is increasingly important to discussions of resources required for technological and green transitions. AI makes the story even more current because modern artificial intelligence depends on very material infrastructure — electricity, data centres, hardware and physical supply chains.
And then Shady Lady finishes the whole thing with:
DRILL BABY DRILL.
NUUKD is not the studio's richest cultural encyclopedia.
It does not have SEW's almost obsessive web of horror, mythology and art references. It does not scatter jokes and cultural targets as densely as Mortal Bromance or Truth.
But it tells a better-contained story than many games that contain twice as many references.
Humanity dies from appetite.
Mother inherits the Earth.
Mother is hungry.
The children drill.
And somehow, after the apocalypse, nothing important has changed.

La Part Maudite score: 9/10.

In SEW, knitting, folklore and domestic imagery are transformed into something far more disturbing — a full-scale exercise in body horror. We examine the old woman behind the Scatter, the grotesque transformation of the body, the game’s Norse and fairy-tale references, and the way Shady Lady turns stitching, skin, flesh and mythology into mechanics that feel inseparable from the theme — resulting in one of the most complete and unsettling games in the series.
